NORFOLK, Va. (March 31, 2025) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) revealed its softball weekly honors where Howard University saw a pair of Bison acknowledged for their outstanding performances. The announcement came Monday afternoon.
Senior catcher
Alyssa Vasquez (Eastvale, Calif.) won MEAC Player of the Week while graduate
Ameenah Ballenger (Lansdown, Pa.) shared the league's Pitcher of the Week award.
Vasquez batted .600 (9-of-15) at the plate while leading the Bison to a 3-2 mark, including series sweep at Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). In the series, she went 8-of-10 with three RBIs, two doubles and one triple.
In the series finale at UMES (March 30), Ballenger faced her former squad where she registered 11 strikeouts in the victory. The Pennsylvania native shared MEAC Pitcher of the Week with North Carolina Central's Jaden Davis.
Freshman
Lauryn Jones (Denton, Texas) earned honorable mention after recording three hits, two runs scored and a stolen base.
Norfolk State's Amaya McPherson earned MEAC Rookie of the Week.
On April 5-6, Howard faces Delaware State (DSU) in a conference three-games series in D.C. Saturday (April 5), HU takes on DSU in a doubleheader at 2 p.m., followed by a seven-inning contest Sunday (April 6) at 2 p.m.
