Howell, King Selected to the BOXTOROW All-America Teams

D.C. native wins HBCU Impact Award

FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. (March 20, 2025) – BOXTOROW uncovered its HBCU Women's Basketball All-America teams and major awards where Howard University saw a pair of Bison recognized for their outstanding performances during the 2024-25 season. The announcement came Thursday.
 
Graduate guard Destiny Howell (Queens, N.Y.) was selected to the BOXTOROW HBCU All-America First Team while freshman standout Saniyah King (Washington) earned All-America Second Team. The D.C. native also took home the Impact Award.
 
Howell returned to form after missing the entire 2023-24 campaign with a season-ending injury, earning All-MEAC First Team. After the regular season, the two-time All-American led the conference in total three-point field goals made (70) and three-point field goals made per game (2.4). The 2022-23 BOXTOROW National HBCU Player of the Year recipient ranked as one of the nation's best in multiple categories, including free throw percentage (39th) and three-point field goals made per game (46th).
 
King made an immediate impact in her first season at Howard, becoming the sixth Bison in program history to win the illustrious MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Rookie of the Year award. The D.C. native led the league in assists (4.7 per game), which ranked 59th in the country, while earning the conference's Rookie of the Week accolade for a record-setting 11 times. She was also named to the All-MEAC Second Team and All-Rookie Team.
 
Norfolk State guard Diamond Johnson earned BOXTOROW HBCU National Player of the Year. North Carolina A&T State head coach Tarrell Robinson and Norfolk State head coach Larry Vickers were named HBCU National Co-Coaches of the Year.
 
Overall, student-athletes from 11 different schools were represented.
 
BOXTOROW has released the Women's Basketball All-America teams since the 2011-12 season.
 
Friday (March 21), Howard hosts Siena in the Postseason WNIT First Round. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m., inside The Burr.
