Bison face another Power 4 opponent Tuesday night

WASHINGTON (December 15, 2025) – Howard University women's basketball faces another Power 4 opponent Tuesday (Dec. 16), going to Cincinnati. Tipoff is slated for 6:30 p.m., inside Fifth Third Arena.

Saturday (Dec. 13), senior forward Zennia Thomas (Cleveland) scored nine of her 11 points in the second half and made two key blocks, but it was two clutch free throws by redshirt sophomore guard April Edwards (Little Rock, Ark.), that helped the Bison hold off Hampton, 64-60, in the Battle for the Real HU at the Care First Arena in Southeast D.C.
 
CINCINNATI
 
On Dec. 13, the Bearcats are coming off a 65-48 win over UNLV at home. They were led by Alliance Ndiba, who came off the bench to score 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting while grabbing 13 rebounds for a double-double.

THE COACHES
 
Howard is coached by Ty Grace (New Haven, '99), who is in her 11th season and the second winningest coach in school history. Cincinnati is led by Katrina Merriweather (Cincinnati, '01), who is her 13th season at the helm.
 
SERIES RECORD
 
Howard has not beaten the Bearcats in four tries, dating back to 2016. The two last played 2023 and Cincinnati prevailed, 87-62. All four games have been played in Cincinnati.

Howard is holding opponents to 25-percent shooting from three while allowing only 62 points per game…Some of Howard's success in close victories has been its free throw shooting, converting on 75-percent from the charity stripe…The vaunted Howard defense continues to be its staple, recording almost 20 points off opponents' turnovers while also averaging 10.1 steals and 4.2 blocks…Nationally, senior forward Nile Miller (Woodbury, N.J.) is tied for 12th in total steals and 41st in steals per game…Thomas is tied for 8th in free throw attempts and 10th in free throws made…Howard is the preseason pick to win the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) and Miller and Thomas are preseason First Team All-MEAC selections…Redshirt junior guard Zoe Stewart (Terre Haute, Ind.) scored a career-high 23 points in the win over Fairfield (Dec. 5), her previous high was 19 points when she was at Missouri State…During the recent stretch, Stewart has connected on 40-of-80 from the field, including 10-of-26 from three-point land…Thomas has reached double figures in a but two games this season…In the  MEAC, Howard leads the conference scoring defense, three-point shooting defense, free throw shooting and assist/turnover ratio…Individually, Thomas leads the MEAC in scoring (15.5 ppg) and rebounding (7.5 rpg)…Stewart leads the MEAC in field goal percentage (.456)…Miller is second in steals and eighth in rebounding…Freshman Ariella Henigan (Chicago) ranks fourth in free throw shooting…On Dec. 15, Thomas was named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Cincinnati leads the conference in offensive rebounding (15.7), which ranks 27th in the country…Reagan Jackson is seventh in free throw shooting (82-percent)…DeVillasee is eighth in assists…Torrence is seventh in blocked shots…Ndiba is 10th in blocked shots.
 
NEXT UP
 
Saturday (Dec. 20), Howard returns home for only its fourth game of the season inside The Burr, taking on St. Bonaventure at 2 p.m.
