LUBBOCK, Texas & NEW YORK (January 18, 2025) – Howard University women's track & field squad shined at the Corky Classic (Jan. 17-18) and HBCU Showcase (Jan. 18).
CORKY CLASSIC
Graduate
Marcia Sey (London, United Kingdom) headlined the weekend, setting a new school record in the 60-meter hurdles (8.11) while finishing runner-up.
Third-year Bison
Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburn, N.C.) competed in the 200-meter dash, winning bronze with a mark of 24.16. Sey and junior
Kiya Lawson (Montclair, N.J.) also took part, placing fifth (24.22) and sixth (24.29), respectively.
In the field, junior
Jazmyn Wajd (Tampa, Fla.) leaped nearly 40-feet (11.95 meters) in the triple jump.
HBCU SHOWCASE
Senior
Joslyn Crosby (Bossier City, La.) and rookie
Mira Martin (Columbus, Ohio) won gold (10:11.81) and silver (10:12.76), respectively, in the 3K run. Newcomer
Chandainey Boyce (Pawtucket, R.I.) also competed, placing eighth overall (11:43.65).
Crosby and Martin also took part in the mile run, earning second (5:12.95) and fifth (5:20.40), respectively.
Senior
Camille Egbula (Simpsonville, S.C.), freshman
Kendall Robinson (Bowie, Md.) and junior
Jordyn Miller (Chicago) raced in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 2:17.12 (second), 2:17.13 (third) and fifth (2:18.43), respectively.
First-year Bison
Cenaiya Billups (Denver) and junior
Sanaa Morris (Bermuda) competed in the 400-meter dash, recording marks of 55.87 (third) and 57.59 (eighth), respectively.
In the field, sophomore
Leyanis Castillo (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) earned silver in the high jump (1.60 meters, 5'3").
Juniors
Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and
Kelis Armstrong (Plano, Texas) took part in the triple jump, placing third (11.77 meters) and fifth (11.60 meters), respectively. The Tar Heel native also competed in the long jump, leaping nearly 19 feet (5.61 meters) while finishing third overall.
Junior
Temi Banwo (Allen, Texas) finished fourth in the weight throw after tossing over 53 feet (16.41 meters).
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Saturday (Jan. 25), HU returns to the City of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia) for the Penn 10 Elite, hosted by the Quakers.
