VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (February 23, 2026) – Howard University women's track & field team won its fifth consecutive MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Indoor Championship Monday evening in Virginia Beach, Va. The two-day meet (Feb. 22-23) took place at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Overall, the Bison on a dominant performance with 215 team points.
HU swept the major honors post meet, led by Bison Director of Track & Field
David Oliver securing his fifth straight MEAC Outstanding Coach award. Senior thrower
Temi Banwo (Allen, Texas) received the league's Outstanding Field Athlete while freshman standout
Alexis Jones (New Windsor, N.Y.) took home the conference's Outstanding Runner.
Banwo, sophomore
Kinnidi Hampton (Rowlette, Texas) and rookie
Mmekom Inyang (Richmond Hill, Ga.) went first (14.39 meters; 47'2.5"), second (13.55 meters; 44'5.5") and third (13.41 meters; 44'), respectively, in the shot put.
Other noteworthy performances in the field included senior
Kelis Armstrong (Plano, Texas) and sophomore
Jasmen Walker (Flossmoor, Ill.) taking third (12.19 meters; 40') and seventh (11.46 meters; 37'7.25"), respectively, in the triple jump.
On the track, Jones claimed gold in the mile run with a 5:15.34 mark. Second-year Bison
Chloe Poindexter (State College, Pa.) and
Ester Kirk (Morristown, N.J.) also competed in the race, finishing third (5:17.10) and sixth (5:22.06), respectively.
Sophomore
Lindsay Johnson (Detroit) and senior
Zoe Turner (Mableton, Ga.) grabbed first (54.65) and second (54.78), respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Newcomer
Carrie Vannoy (Oak Park, Mich.) also took part in the event, placing sixth overall (56.29).
Juniors
Yahnari Lyons (Hampton, Ga.) and
Aiyana Gray-Williams (Winston-Salem, N.C.) earned gold (23.68) and bronze (24.04), respectively, in the 200-meter dash. Fellow classmate
Mackenzie Robinson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and freshman
Gabby White (Silver Spring, Md.) also participated in the race, taking fourth (24.23) and eighth (25.00), respectively.
Sophomores
Tiffany Mugubi (Houston) and
Kendall Robinson (Bowie, Md.) claimed first (2:07.14) and second (2:17.14), respectively, in the 800-meter run.
Norfolk State finished runner-up, scoring 125 points, followed by North Carolina Central (97 points).
On March 13-14, several Bison travel to Fayetteville, Ark. for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
