WASHINGTON (September 24, 2024) - Howard University men's and women's swimming & diving team kickoff their 2024-25 season at the annual Potomac Relays, hosted by American University. Relay events begin Friday (Sept. 27) at 4 p.m.
The program was also scheduled to compete in the Osprey Sprint & Relay Invite (Sept. 27-28) in Jacksonville, Fla., but was canceled due to Tropical Storm Helene.
SEASON OUTLOOK
MEN
The men's team closed out its 2023-24 season with a second-place finish at the NEC (Northeast) Championship.
The two-time NEC Men's Outstanding Diver senior
Jordan Walker (San Antonio) returns, alongside graduate
Tristan Stevens (Chicago), senior
Erald Thompson III (Nassau, Bahamas), and third-year Bison
Taj Benton (Baltimore) and
Ty Triche (Humble, Texas).
WOMEN
The women's team also finished its 2023-24 season with a second-place finish at the NEC Championship.
Graduate
Isabella Fountain (White Plains, N.Y.), seniors
Kelsey Roberson (West Orange, N.J.) and
Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) and the NEC Co-Outstanding Swimmer junior
Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) make their return.
MEET PREVIEW
The Potomac Relays will mark the beginning of the season for these featured five teams: Howard; American; Georgetown; George Mason and Mount St. Mary's.
The relays will take place in the following order: 200 Medley Relay; 800 Freestyle Relay (4x200); 3x100 Butterfly Relay; 3x100 Backstroke Relay; 3x100 Breaststroke Relay; 500 Freestyle Relay (50-100-150-200); 4x100 IM Relay; 1000 Freestyle Relay (2x500); 200 Freestyle Relay.
Excluding the 4x800 and 2x500 relays, each event will have two heats. The first heat is non-scoring while the second heat is scoring.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
The next time Howard competes, they will host local rival Georgetown for the Battle at The Burr III Saturday (Oct. 5) at 1 p.m.
