GENEVA, Ohio (February 19, 2026) — The reigning NEC champions continued their title defense Thursday night as the Howard University men's swimming & diving team remained in first place with 611 points through three days at the SPIRE Institute.
Howard wasted no time setting the tone.
Mason Green (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) opened finals with a gold medal performance in the 100-yard butterfly, winning in 47.40 and igniting momentum for the Bison.
Solomon Goins (Dallas) earned 16 points in the 400-yard IM (4:04.55).
In the 100-yard breaststroke,
Mark Brown (Greensboro, N.C.) placed second in 54.88, earning 17 points in a high-level championship heat.
Howard controlled the consolation final of the 100-yard backstroke as
Ty Triche (Humble, Texas) claimed the win in 52.40, adding momentum and depth scoring late in the session.
The Bison capped the evening with a dominant performance in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Brown, Green,
Adam Diaz (Manhattan, N.Y.) and
Taj Benton (Baltimore) combined for a championship-winning 3:16.73, sealing 40 points and bringing the energy inside SPIRE to its peak as Howard strengthened its hold on first place.
With one day remaining, the Bison remain in prime position to secure their third NEC championship in four years.
