NORFOLK, Va. (September 10, 2024) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) revealed its women's volleyball weekly awards where Howard University junior outside hitter
Rya McKinnon (Hoover, Ala.) grabbed the league's Player of the Week honor for the second straight time. The announcement came Monday (Sept. 9).
McKinnon led the Bison in two nonconference wins against Houston Christian (HCU) and Kansas City (KC) at the Molly Howard-Gerwig Memorial in Houston (Sept. 5-7), recording 50 total kills (3.85 per set) during the three-day tourney. In the victory over HCU (Sept. 5), she notched a double-double (17 kills & 11 digs) while adding a season-high 19 kills against New Mexico (Sept. 6). The Alabama native finished with 14 kills in the tournament finale versus KC (Sept. 7).
Delaware State's Paige Ahakuleo was named MEAC Rookie of the Week while North Carolina Central's Bella Dearinger earned Setter of the Week honors, respectively. Coppin State's Mackenzie Parks was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
On Sept. 14-15, Howard attends the Blue Hen Invitational in Newark, Del., hosted by the Delaware Blue Hens.
