Men’s Golf Remains Steady After NCAA Regional Day Two

Odom leads the way for the second straight day

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (May 14, 2024) – Howard University men's golf team remained steady after Day Two of the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional, held at the Finley Golf Course (par-70, 7,084 yards) and hosted by the University of North Carolina (UNC).

The NCAA started round two Monday afternoon (May 13) because of inclement weather in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday (May 15). Seven groups had to finish their second rounds at 7:30 a.m. (ET) this morning, including the Bison.

For the second straight day, graduate Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) led HU with an even-par (70) performance in round two, including four birdies. In 36 holes, the Memphis native is two-over par (142) with 18 holes remaining.

Senior Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.) shot three-over par (73) on Day Two with a pair of birdies. Overall, he is four-over par (144) after 36 holes of play.

Graduate Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) recorded a 72 (+2) in round two while rookies Bear Huff (Riverside, Calif.) and Kezaia Dimosi (London, England) posted a 78 (+8).

Collectively, HU fired 13-over par (293) in round two. Thru 36 holes, the Bison are 28-over par (588) and sit in 13th place.

East Tennessee State (539, -21) leads the field, shooting five-under par (265) during round two. Clemson is two strokes behind (541, -19), followed by UNC (547, -13) and Baylor (549, -11), respectively. Long Beach State and Georgia Tech are tied for the coveted fifth spot (550, -10) with one round remaining.

Clemson's Calahan Keever leads the player leaderboard, firing 10-under par (130) in 36 holes of action. UNC's Austin Greaser and Baylor's Johnny Keefer are only one stroke back (131, -9).

North Carolina State's Nick Matthews is tied fourth place (139, -1), but leads all individual golfers.

The top five teams and the low individual not on one of those teams advance to the 2024 NCAA Championship (May 24-29) in Carlsbad, Calif.

Despite teeing off the third and final round at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, heavy rains and wet grounds forced suspension of play. The action is scheduled to resume Wednesday at 7:30 a.m., pending course conditions.
