CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (May 13, 2024) – Howard University men's golf team made its debut at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional where they sit 13
th in the standings after Day One. The event takes place at the Finley Golf Course, hosted by the University of North Carolina (UNC).
Collectively, the Bison shot 15-over par (295) after round one.
Senior
Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.) and graduate
Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) led the way. Smith fired one-over par (71) with a pair of birdies while Odom recorded two-over par (72), producing four birdies in the round.
Graduate
Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) and rookie
Bear Huff (Riverside, Calif.) registered six-over par (76) during the first 18 holes of action.
UNC held the top spot with a nine-under par (271) performance after round one. Ball State (BSU) and conference rival Georgia Tech were two strokes back (273, -7) of the Tar Heels.
Individually, BSU's Braxton Kuntz spearheads the pack after shooting eight-under par (62) in round one.
The second round was moved to today due to the forecast of bad weather Tuesday (May 14); thus, play was suspended due to darkness at 8:15 p.m. (ET). Four teams, including Howard, and all 10 individuals were unable to complete the second round.
The resumption of round two is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. (ET). The third round, weather permitting, will not begin any earlier than 9:30 a.m. (ET).
