WASHINGTON (April 5, 2024) - Howard University Softball travels to Dover, Delaware to face Delaware State (DSU) in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play. The Lady Bison carry their eight-game win streak into a three-game slate, starting with a Saturday (April 6) doubleheader at 1 p.m., followed by a noon start time Sunday (April 7).

HU leads the series, 27-19, dating back to 2006. Howard has won five straight against Delaware State, going back to the 2022 campaign.

After going 2-3 during the opening weekend, the Bison went on a program-best 11-game win streak. Since dropping the MEAC opener at North Carolina Central (March 16), the Bison have won eight consecutive contests in league play.

Bianca Worthy (Goodyear, Ariz.), who is batting .406 with 17 RBIs on the season. With her efforts, she has earned MEAC Player of the Week three times.

On the mound, the Lady Bison have been excellent, only allowing a 3.17 ERA in 31 games played. The trio of
Amelia Weber (Montclair, Calif.),
Mia Gonzales (Atwater, Calif.) and
Julia Holt (Tucson, Ariz.) have dominated in the circle, combining for 21 wins. Weber has a 10-3 record with a team-leading 61 strikeouts. Gonzalez holds a 7-1 mark with a 2.88 ERA in 18 appearances (11 starts) while Holt is 4-0 in 17 appearances with a league-leading five saves.

DELAWARE STATE

On the season, Delaware State has a 10-16 record (3-6 MEAC) heading into the three-game slate against the Bison. Recently, they won the season series against Norfolk State, 2-1.

The star player on the Hornets is junior outfielder Uxua Modrego Lopez, who is batting .312 with 24 RBIs and four home runs.

The Lady Bison swept their last series against Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES).

On March 30, Howard swept the doubleheader versus UMES. HU opened with an 8-5 win before closing the day with a 10-2 victory in five.

The following day (March 31), HU defeated the Hawks in six, 10-2, to complete the season sweep.

On April 13-14, Howard returns to The District for a three-game series against Coppin State. Saturday's (April 13) doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m., on ESPN+, followed by a seven-inning contest Sunday (April 14) at noon.
