NORFOLK, Va. (April 30, 2024) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) uncovered its softball weekly honors where Howard University saw a pair of Bison acknowledged for their incredible performances in the season sweep against Norfolk State (NSU). The announcement came Tuesday.
Junior
Alyssa Vasquez (Eastvale, Calif.) was selected MEAC Player of the Week while newcomer
Angel Riggins (San Diego) claimed Rookie of the Week.
Vasquez batted .545 (6-of-11) while racking up five RBIs, four runs scored, two walks and a double in three games versus the Spartans. Saturday (April 27), she went 2-of-4 with three RBIs and a pair of walks against NSU.
For Riggins, she hit 4-of-6 with four runs scored and three RBIs in the 3-0 sweep versus Norfolk State. In Saturday's win, the San Diego native went a perfect 2-of-2 while swiping three stolen bases.
Sophomore
Julia Holt (Tucson, Ariz.) received honorable mention after throwing 7.0 innings in three relief appearances.
Morgan State's Victoria Fletcher and Maryland Eastern Shore's Ameenah Ballenger were named MEAC Co-Pitchers of the Week.
On May 8-11, HU goes to Norfolk, Va., for the MEAC Tournament, held on the campus of NSU.
