NEW ORLEANS (April 3, 2024) – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) revealed its latest NCAA Division I Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index where the Howard University short hurdle (110-meter) squad ranked No. 1 in the nation. The announcement came Monday (April 1).
HU topped the event after Week Two of the USTFCCCA Rating Index, edging out Texas A&M and North Carolina A&T State.
Graduate
Samuel Bennett (Langdon Hills, United Kingdom) spearheaded the squad, finishing runner-up in the annual Texas Relays with a 13.39 time, which ranks third in the country. Rookie
Otto Laing (Freeport, Bahamas) also competed in the Lone Star State, clocking in at 13.88, sitting 41
st in the nation.
Senior
Zachary Hawkins (Lithonia, Ga.) and fifth-year Bison
Darian Clyburn (Louisville, Ky.) round out the squad with top 45 marks, recording 13.83 (34
th) and 13.90 (43
rd), respectively.
Other notable event rankings included the women's 100-meter dash sitting 10
th in the country, led by graduate
Kailei Collins (Houston) and junior
Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) with times of 11.23 (12
th) and 11.44 (50
th), respectively.
On April 6, Howard stays in The District for the annual Bison Classic, co-hosted by HU and Gallaudet. The action starts at 9:30 a.m.
