PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (April 26, 2024) – Howard University men's golf team leads after Day One of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship, held at the Callaway Gardens Resort (par-72, 6,981 yards) in Pine Mountain, Ga.
After 18 holes, HU shot 5-under par (283) with four Bison in the top 15 player leaderboard.
Graduate
Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) leads the Bison with a 3-under par (69) performance on Day One. The Virginia native is tied for third overall after recording four birdies and an eagle on seven.
Senior
Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.) is one stroke behind Whiten, shooting a 70 (-2) in round one with four birdies.
Graduate
Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) and rookie
Bear Huff (Riverside, Calif.) rounded out the top 15, tying for 11
th in the individual standings at even par (72)
Reigning NEC Champion LIU finished Day One in second (285, -3), followed by Sacred Heart (SHU) at even par (288).
SHU's Marcus Lim, reigning NEC Player of the Year, leads the 55-man field, posting a 65 (-7) in round one. LIU's Lewis Wright trails Lim by one stroke for the top spot (66, -6).
Saturday (April 27), HU plays round two of the NEC Championship. The action starts at 9 a.m.
