Men’s Golf Secures 12th at the Colleton River Collegiate

Bison competed in the toughest tourney of the season so far

BLUFFTON, S.C. (March 5, 2024) – Howard University men's golf team competed in arguably one of its toughest tournaments in the spring season where they placed 12th overall in the Colleton River Collegiate, hosted by Michigan State University. The three-round, two-day event took place at the Colleton River Club (par-72, 7,042 yards) in Bluffton, S.C.
 
Collectively, HU shot 2-under par (862) during the two days. In the second round, Howard produced a 286 (-2).
 
Graduate Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) led the way, shooting 2-under par (70) all three rounds. The Memphis native tied for 19th overall.
 
Fellow classmate C.M. Mixon (Bowling Green, Ken.) registered 1-under par (215), including a 69 (-3) during the middle round. He tied for 34th in the event.
 
Senior Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.) recorded a 70 during the second round, finishing 1-over par (217) while tying for 45th in the standings.
 
All 14 programs shot even (864) or better during the event, but Georgia Southern (GSU) led from start-to-finish. GSU won the tourney after shooting 32-under par (832).
 
Individually, Brycen Jones (GSU) won the medalist after recording 12-under par (204). Four golfers tied for runner-up, one stroke behind Jones.
On March 16-17, HU travels to Urbana, Md., for the annual Carpetbagger Classic, hosted by Binghamton.
