LAST TIMEOUT

Saturday (March 2), DMV native graduate guard Jordan Hairston (Fairfax, Va.) scored a season-high 19 points to lead four players in double figures to help the Bison to a 70-66 win over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game.

From there, the duo of junior guards Marcus Dockery (Washington) and Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) took over. Dockery, the leading three-point shooter in the conference all season, connected on 4-of-8 while also grabbing a career-best seven rebounds. Harris, perhaps the most dominant player in the conference and a strong candidate for both MEAC Player and Defensive Player of the Year, finished with points on 6-of-9 shooting, 10 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the year and two blocks.

LAST MATCHUP

On Feb. 5, Harris scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the second half and Dockery added 21 points, but it was some key plays by graduate forward Seth Towns (Columbus, Ohio) and clutch free throw shooting by graduate guard Isiah Warfield (Monaca, Pa.) that helped the Howard University men's basketball team hold off Delaware State (DSU), 75-71, in a wild and exciting MEAC showdown at Memorial Hall.

MATCHUP PREVIEW

The Hornets are led by senior guard Martaz Robinson (16.4 ppg & 6.2 rpg), sophomore guard Jevin Muniz (14.6 ppg), freshman guard Deywilk Tavarez (13.2 ppg, team-high 104 total assists), junior forward Wesley Oba (6.8 ppg & 6.0 rpg) and redshirt junior center Raymond Somerville (3.7 ppg, 2.6 rpg, team-high 13 total blocks).

BISON NOTES
  • Injuries have forced the Bison to play 13 different starting lineups this season.
  • Dockery and Harris are the most improved players on the team. Harris has doubled his scoring and rebounding averages from last year while Dockery has already surpassed his single-season assists totals.
  • Hairston has come up big the past three games, averaging in double figures and connecting on over 50 percent from three.
  • The game looms large as a victory would help the Bison repeat as MEAC regular season champs. They are currently in a three-way tie for second place with NCCU and surprising SC State with a game remaining Thursday (March 7) at Norfolk State.
NEXT UP

The Bison close out the regular season Thursday (March 4) at conference-leading Norfolk State. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
