Miller, Creek Guide Women’s Basketball in Road Win at DSU

Bison down Lady Hornets with second-half charge

DOVER, Del. (February 5, 2024) – Sophomore forward Nile Miller (Haddonfield, N.J.) scored a team-high 19 points and just missed a double-double while senior forward Kaiya Creek (Seat Pleasant, Md.) added 15 points to lead the Howard University women's basketball team to a 69-57 road win at Delaware State (DSU) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest at Memorial Hall.

The win was the second-in-a-row and fourth in the last five for the streaking Bison (8-13, 5-2 MEAC).

Miller is really coming on strong and has been one of the keys to Howard's surge of late. The leading candidate for MEAC Defensive Player of the Year, Miller turned offensive by hitting on 8-of-11 from the floor while grabbing nine rebounds. She has tallied 21 rebounds in the past two games and ranks among the conference's leaders in steals, rebounds and blocked shots.

Creek has also begun to make an impact as she hit on a career-high five shots from the three-point line.

Redshirt freshman guard Tyana Walker (Leawood, Kan.), who is coming off a team-high 18 points in Saturday's (Feb. 3) win over Maryland Eastern Shore, finished with 10 points.

Fifth-year guard Iyanna Warren (Accokeek, Md.), the team leader in scoring, turned playmaker for the second straight game as she dealt out five assists. Fellow backcourt mate senior guard Kaniyah Harris (Capital Heights, Md.) equaled Warren's assist total (5) in the victory.

The Bison defense, which has been stingy all season, had another one of its signature performances, limiting the Hornets (6-14, 2-5 MEAC) to 18-of-52 shooting (34-percent) from the floor. It was especially effective when it forced the hosts into 2-of-13 from the field en route to a 23-4 third quarter outburst.

Delaware State, which dropped its fifth out of the last six, was led Deyonce Thompson with 17 points and Naomi Zulueta and Denijsha Wilson, who scored 12 points and 11 points, respectively.

NEXT UP: Howard begins the second round of conference play when it hosts North Carolina Central Saturday (Feb. 17) at 1 p.m.
