STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (December 13, 2024) – Howard University women's track & field team put on a show at the Seahawk Shootout, hosted by Wagner College.
On the day, HU won more than half of the events in New York.
Juniors
Zoe Turner (Mableton, Ga.) and
Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburn, N.C.) and newcomers
Lindsay Johnson (Detroit) and
Tiffany Mugubi (Houston) capped off the afternoon with a victory in the 4x400 relay, clocking in at 3:43.61.
The 4x200 relay squad of juniors
Kelis Armstrong (Plano, Texas) and
Lauren Thompson (Frisco, Texas) and sophomores
Nadia Jacobs (Chesapeake, Va.) and
Mackenzie Robinson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) also came away victorious, producing a 1:39.46 mark.
Individually, Turner, Woodruff and Johnson finished top three in the 300-meter dash, recording times of 38.55, 38.65 and 38.80, respectively.
Woodruff placed second in the 60-meter hurdles behind teammate graduate
Marcia Sey (London, United Kingdom), who ran 8.41.
Graduate
Kailei Collins (Houston) and second-year Bison
Aiyana Gray-Williams (Winston-Salem, N.C.) competed in the 60-meter dash, earning first (7.47) and third (7.65), respectively.
In the field, junior
Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) claimed gold in the long jump, leaping 5.92 meters (19'5.25").
Fellow classmate
Jazmyn Wajd (Tampa) won the triple jump (12.49 meters), followed by Armstrong (12.22 meters).
On Jan. 10-11, HU returns to action at the Rod McCravy Invite, hosted by the University of Kentucky.
