Bison take on crosstown rival Hoyas

WASHINGTON (November 30, 2024) – Howard University women's basketball team returns to The Burr Sunday (Dec. 1), squaring off against crosstown rival Georgetown (GU). Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Georgetown (3-3) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 69-61 win at Boston Wednesday (Nov. 27). Jayden McBride led four scorers in double figures with 18 points. Ariel Jenkins added 16 points and Victoria Rivera and Khadee Hession finished with 13 points and 11 points, respectively.
 
HOWARD
 
Friday (Nov. 29), graduate guard Destiny Howell (Queens, N.Y.) scored a team-high 19 points and just missed a double-double with a career-high nine rebounds as the Bison pulled away to a 74-63 road win at William & Mary.
 
BISON NOTES
 
Howell has reached double figures in all seven games this season...Howard played most of the last game at William & Mary (Nov. 29) without starting forward Zennia Thomas (Cleveland), who played only 17 minutes…The Bison held an advantage with points in the paint (32-18) and points off turnovers (21)…The Bison's fifth win last season did not come until January 20, 2024, the team was 5-12 at that time…Redshirt sophomore guard Tyana Walker (Leawood, Kan.), a preseason First Team All-MEAC selection, added a season-high seven points…freshman guard Saniyah King (Washington) was recently named MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Rookie of the Week for the third time this season Tuesday (Nov. 26)…in the last five games, the Bison defense has limited its opponents to under 60 points.
 
SERIES RECORD
 
This is only the third meeting between the two schools since 2017. The Hoyas edged the Bison, 45-43, last year at Georgetown. GU has won both matches; thus, leading the series, 2-0.
 
THE COACHES
 
Georgetown is coached by Darnell Haney (Florida A&M, '04), who is in his second season. Howard is led by Ty Grace (New Haven,'99), who is in her 10th season.
