Six Bison Claim MEAC Volleyball Postseason Awards

Howard acknowledged for outstanding regular season

NORFOLK, Va. (November 21, 2024) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) unveiled its women's volleyball postseason awards where Howard University saw six Bison acknowledged for their outstanding seasons. The announcement came Thursday night during the league's annual awards ceremony in Norfolk, Va.
 
Bison head coach Shaun Kupferberg and juniors Rya McKinnon (Hoover, Ala.) and Leah Reeves (Allen, Texas) highlighted the night, each winning major awards.
 
Kupferberg won MEAC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his illustrious career (2014, 2016, 2018 & 2024), leading the club to a perfect 14-0 conference record with only two set losses during league play.
 
McKinnon took home MEAC Player of the Year for the third consecutive season, becoming the first player in league history since 1998. This season, she topped the conference in kills per set (4.40), which ranks 25th in the nation.
 
Reeves claimed MEAC Setter of the Year after winning the league's weekly honor for eight straight weeks. She finished the regular season with a conference-leading 8.74 assists per game.
 
Other noteworthy Bison included senior middle blocker Cimone Woodard (Missouri City, Texas) earning All-MEAC First Team after finishing second in the league with a .359 hitting percentage.
 
Senior outside hitter Dami Awojobi (Hempstead, N.Y.) and junior libero Claire Simpson (Plainfield, Ill.) each secured a spot on the All-MEAC Second Team.
 
Delaware State's Paige Ahakuelo won MEAC Rookie of the Year while Norfolk State's Lily Rose-Pichon grabbed Defensive Player of the Year.
 
All awards were voted on by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.
 
On Nov. 22, Howard is set to play South Carolina State in the MEAC Tournament Quarterfinal Round in Dover, Del., hosted by Delaware State University.
