Harper Takes Home MEAC Weekly Award

D.C. native wins MEAC Rookie of the Week for the second time

NORFOLK, Va. (November 18, 2024) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) uncovered its men's basketball weekly awards where Howard University freshman guard Blake Harper (Washington) took home the league's Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. The announcement came Monday.
 
In the victories over Dillard (Nov. 11) and Tennessee State (Nov. 13), he averaged 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals. After a 12-point effort against the Bleu Devils, Harper followed up with an impressive 18-point performance versus the Tigers in Atlanta.
 
Currently, Harper ranks among the league leaders in multiple categories, including scoring (t-10th), rebounding (t-6th) and free throw percentage (6th).
 
Fellow D.C. native senior guard Marcus Dockery received honorable mention after averaging 19.0 points, 3.0 assists and 2.0 boards in the pair of wins.
 
Norfolk State guard Brian Moore Jr. and Maryland Eastern Shore guard Ketron Shaw were named MEAC Co-Players of the Week. Delaware State forward Muneer Newton earned Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Howard travels to Baltimore to compete in the UMBC Multi-Team Event, hosted by the Retrievers. Sunday (Nov. 24), the Bison take on Boston University. The following day (Nov. 25), HU squares off against UMBC. Both contests are scheduled for noon.
