NORFOLK, Va. (October 8, 2024) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) revealed its 2024-25 men's basketball preseason honors where Howard University was picked first in the league's preseason poll. The announcement came Tuesday during the league's media day.
HU tallied 121 points with 12 first-place votes. Last season, the Bison secured their third consecutive winning season with a 18-17 (9-5 MEAC) mark, won the conference tournament and earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year.
Norfolk State was projected to finish second with 106 points, including three first-place votes, followed by North Carolina Central at 85 points (one first-place vote).
Additionally, the league uncovered its individual preseason awards where senior guard
Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) was selected MEAC Preseason Player of the Year. The BOXTOROW HBCU All-American also made the Preseason All-MEAC First Team after ranking among the league leaders in several categories a year ago.
Fellow classmate guard
Marcus Dockery (Washington) secured a spot on the Preseason All-MEAC Second Team. Last season, the D.C. native topped the league in three-point field goal percentage (40-percent) and three-point field goals made per game (2.73).
All awards were voted on by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.
Howard opens the 2024-25 campaign next month.
