SAN FRANCISCO (September 19, 2023) – Howard University men's golf team placed eighth overall at the HU-USF Intercollegiate, hosted by the Bison and Dons. The two-day, 54-hole event took place at the TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.
Overall, the Bison shot two-over par (866) during the two-day span. Howard shot the second-best round in round two, recording a 10-under par (278).
Graduate
Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) led the Bison with an impressive performance, shooting seven-under par (209) during the three-round event. In round two, the Virginia native shot a 67 (-5) for HU.
Fellow classmate
C.M. Mixon (Bowling Green, Ken.) placed tied for 21
st, registering a three-under par (213). After shooting 75 (+3) in the opening round, Nixon rebounded with back-to-back three-under par (69) efforts in rounds two and three.
Graduate
Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) recorded a 218 (+2) in the 54-hole tournament. The Memphis product shot five-under par (139) in the first two rounds but was unable to maintain the momentum going into the final round, producing a 79 (+7) in the final 18 holes.
Loyola Marymount won the 2023 HU-USF Intercollegiate, led by Riley Lewis with a 19-under performance (197). Collectively, the squad shot 38-under par (826). San Francisco finished runner-up (840, -24), followed by UC Davis (847, -17).
On Oct. 2-3, HU travels to East Hampton, N.Y. for the Hamptons Intercollegiate, hosted by Loyola (Md.).
