NORFOLK, Va. (April 24, 2023) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) uncovered its softball weekly awards where Howard University graduate
Kalita Dennis (Elk Grove, Calif.) claimed the league's Player of the Week honor. The announcement came Monday afternoon.
In five games, the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year went 10-of-14 (.714) with nine RBIs and three runs scored. In season sweep at Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), she went 7-of-10 with six RBIs and three runs scored, including 3-of-4 with three RBIs in Sunday's finale.
This season, the California native is batting .346 with 25 RBIs, 19 runs scored, eight doubles and four stolen bases.
Rookie
Amelia Weber (Montclair, Calif.) earned honorable mention after racking up four hits and a pair of RBIs in the game one victory over UMES.
Coppin State freshman Celeste Gonzaels was named MEAC Rookie of the Week while teammate Vanessa Carrizosa was named the Pitcher of the Week.
The Bison return to the diamond Wednesday, April 26 at 2 p.m., as they travel crosstown to face George Washington.
