Football Closes Out the Spring with Annual Game

Offense outlasts Defense in annual Spring Game

WASHINGTON (April 15, 2023) – Howard University football team closed out the 2023 spring with its annual Spring Game where Team White (Offense) outlasted Team Blue (Defense), 26-21.

Fans had an opportunity to see the reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Champions in a fun, entertaining contest at Greene Stadium. Bison Nation also had a chance to watch the game on www.HUBison.com.

Team Blue opened with a quick three-and-out, but Team White responded with a rushing TD by Ian Wheeler (Houston), 7-2. Team White closed out the first period with a field goal from Dylan West (Arkon, Ohio), 10-3.

After an hour delay due to lightening, the action resumed with a pick-six from Detroit native Carson Hinton to shrink the gap, 10-9.

Team Blue regained the upper hand, scoring six points in the third and taking a 15-10 advantage into the final frame.

Moments into the fourth, DMV native Tony Bedell found paydirt and gave Team White a 17-15 lead.

Team Blue responded with another interception, thanks to Kedrick Green (Winston-Salem, N.C.), and grabbed a 19-17 advantage late.

Team White claimed the upper hand with another West field goal, 20-19, but the defense made another three-and-out stop to take a slim 21-20 lead.

In the game's final possession, Isaiah Okoro (Buffalo, N.Y.) launched a Hail Mary to the end zone where Thomas Vi (Brentwood, Calif.) came down for the game-winning TD to give Team White a 26-21 victory.

For the second year in a row, Team White defeated Team Blue.

Coming off a share of the 2022 MEAC Championship, Howard will begin its season with a road game at Eastern Michigan (Saturday, Sept. 2).
