WASHINGTON (April 14, 2023) - Howard University Softball's next series takes them to Orangeburg, South Carolina, where they will face South Carolina State (SCSU) in a conference three-game series. They begin their play against the Lady Bulldogs Saturday, April 15, in a doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m., followed by a seven-inning contest Sunday, April 16, at noon.

Howard 11-21 (4-7 MEAC) is looking to bounce back after a loss at the hands of Coppin State Thursday (April 13), 6-1.

Maryn Jordan (San Diego) has been a bag thief this season, leading HU in stolen bases (7). On April 3, the San Diego native was given an honorable mention in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) weekly softball honors after going a combined 5-of-8 from the plate against Morgan State (April 2).

HU leads the conference in batting average (.290) while second in stolen bases (50).

SOUTH CAROLINA STATE

South Carolina State 3-23 (2-8 MEAC) has had a similarly slow season, coming into this matchup after losing three straight to Norfolk State (April 6 & 8).

Pitcher Destiny Calloway (Lynchburg, Va.) has been having an excellent year as a hitter, coming in among the MEAC leaders in home runs (4).

Freshman Madison Boyd (Ladson, S.C.) is top three in the MEAC with 10 stolen bases on the year.

Thursday (April 13), Howard suffered a tough loss to Coppin State (CSU), 6-1, in a makeup game originally scheduled for March 26. As a result, CSU took the season series, 2-1.

The next time HU takes the field will be in a nonconference doubleheader at home against Saint Peter's. Howard will face the Peacocks at the Nationals Youth Academy in D.C. Tuesday, April 18, at noon.
