NORFOLK, Va. (March 29, 2023) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) revealed its men's and women's track & field weekly accolades where Howard University saw a pair of Bison acknowledged for efforts at the annual Raleigh Relays. The announcement came Wednesday afternoon.
Senior
Mekhi Abbott (Monroe, N.J.) won MEAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week while fellow classmate All-American
Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C.) claimed Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
Abbott, two-time MEAC Javelin Champion, competed in the javelin, tossing a conference-best 63.69 meters (208 feet, 11 inches), which ranks 52
nd in the nation. He placed eighth overall in the event.
Wright, reigning MEAC 400-meter Hurdles Champion, took part in the 400-meter dash, winning the race with a league-best 52.76 mark, which sits third in the country.
Graduates
Dylan Beard (Baltimore) and
Mikyla Rodgers (South Huntington, N.Y.) received honorable mention.
North Carolina Central (NCCU) senior Donnell Carter and Norfolk State sophomore Gidion Sigei were named MEAC Men's Track Co-Athletes of the Week. NCCU junior Joidon Boddie earned Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors.
HU will stay in the south and head to Austin, Texas for the Texas Relays (March 30-April 1).
