BALTIMORE (March 25, 2023) - Howard Softball continues its conference play Sunday (March 26) against Coppin State (CSU) in Baltimore.

Due to inclement weather, both squads are set to play a doubleheader Sunday afternoon, beginning at 2 p.m. The third matchup is rescheduled for Thursday, April 13 at 3 p.m.

This will be the 45
th meeting between Howard and Coppin State, going back to 2006, with HU leading the series 23-21. The Lady Bison also hold a six-game win streak against the Eagles, which they will look to extend this weekend.

Howard (8-15, 1-2 MEAC) is coming off a trip to Norfolk, Va., where they began conference play against the Norfolk State Spartans in a three-game series.

In their opening game of MEAC play, the Lady Bison recorded a win, scoring seven runs on 10 hits, with sophomore catcher/infielder
Alyssa Vasquez (Downey, Calif.) going 4-of-5 with two doubles.

Sidney Fletcher (Whittier, Calif.) leads the team in batting average, hitting a stellar .378 on the season with a .984 OPS. Fletcher also has the team's only home run so far this season, hitting a two-run blast to left field in the squad's March 13 game against Bryant.

Coppin State enters this weekend with a 3-12 overall record (0-3 MEAC).
The last game CSU played was a victory against UMBC, 4-3, with junior pitcher/utility Vanessa Carrizosa (Moreno Valley, Calif.) notching her third win of the season.

Freshman infielder Seryna Esparza (Hollister, Calif.) has started off her first collegiate season with a bang, leading the Eagles in multiple categories, including batting average (.390), OPS (1.027) and runs scored (6).

In their last game, the Bison came up short, losing 11-3 to Norfolk State in its series-ender. Vasquez had herself a nice outing, going 1-of-3 with three RBIs.

After Coppin State, the Lady Bison will face Hofstra Thursday, March 30, at the Nationals Youth Academy in D.C. The game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
