Howard leads the series, 15-11, since 2005 and has won three-in-a-row.
HOWARD
Howard (14-10, 6-1 MEAC) has averaged over 87 points during the streak and are shooting a sizzling 49 percent from the field, including 43 percent from the arc.
It has been a combination of depth, balance scoring and team defense that has proven to be the difference.
The balanced attack has featured the outside shooting of long-range marksmen, junior forward
Jordan Wood (San Antonio) and sophomore guard
Marcus Dockery (Washington), the all-around play and rebounding of redshirt junior forward
Steve Settle, III (Glenarden, Md.), the inside play of freshman forward
Shy Odom (Roxbury, Mass.) and graduate forward
Kobe Dickson (Holcomb, Kan.), the floor leadership of sophomore guard
Elijah Hawkins (Washington) and the outstanding reserve play of sophomore guard
Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.), graduate guard
Jelani Williams (Washington), sophomore guard
Khalil Robinson (Columbia, S.C.) and the emergence of freshman forward
Ose Okoji (Brampton, Canada).
Howard ranks second in the MEAC at 73-percent free throw shooting and 37-percent three-point shooting. The Bison are also third in assists (14.6 per game).
Individually, Hawkins leads the MEAC in assists (5.9 per game), fourth in free throw shooting (82-percent), seventh in scoring (13.3 ppg) and eighth in three-point shooting.
Settle ranks second in free throw shooting (84-percent) and eighth in rebounding (5.8 per game).
Harris 10
th in blocked shots while Dockery and Wood sit third and fifth, respectively, in three-point shooting.
DELAWARE STATE
The Hornets (4-18, 3-4 in the MEAC) have played better since Howard defeated them, 84-64, to open conference play (January 7). Delaware State is led by senior forward Brandon Stone, who leads the team in scoring, rebounding and field goal shooting (51-percent), sophomore guard Corey Perkins (3.4 apg) and redshirt sophomore center Raymond Somerville, who leads the team in blocked shots.
Stone is third in field goal percentage (51-percent) and ninth in scoring (12.2 ppg) and rebounding (5.3). Perkins is sixth in assists (3.4 per game) and Somerville is fifth in blocked shots.
NEXT UP
Howard hosts a big showdown with Maryland Eastern Shore, who shares first place with the Bison and the only team to defeat HU in conference play this season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Burr Gymnasium.
