LAST TIMEOUT
The Bison (1-8 overall) dropped their seventh straight after suffering a 45-43 decision to their crosstown rival Georgetown (Nov. 30).
Howard used the same formula as it has all season with its stingy defense. The Bison were in great position to end the current slide, taking a 42-38 lead early in the fourth quarter. During a 6:23 stretch, Howard held Georgetown scoreless, but again it failed to capitalize on the drought; thus, fell in a disappointing defeat.
MATCHUP PREVIEW
SERIES RECORD
Sunday's showdown will be the third meeting between HU and Tulane with both institutions splitting the first two meetings.
The two teams net once when Tulane defeated Howard, 84-79 in Lubbock, TX
HOWARD
What has gone lost in the slide is team defense. On the season, the Bison are holding their opponents to under 60 points per game (ppg), 34 percent shooting from the floor and 29 percent from three.
The problem is that the team has not been able to get consistent scoring, averaging 52 ppg and has gotten little production from its bench.
"Like I told the team, we need to not be just shot takers, but shot makers," said Howard Head Coach
Ty Grace, emphatically following the team's last loss.
Consistent shooting from the floor aside, the Bison have compounded their problems by shooting 62 percent from the charity stripe, well below the 74 percent average as a team under Grace's tenure.
Howard is led by redshirt freshman guard
Tyana Walker (11.9 ppg & 3.8 rpg), graduate guard
Iyanna Warren (10.9 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 18 total assists & 11 total steals), junior forward
Vanessa Blake (7.2 ppg & 5.2 rpg) and sophomore forward
Nile Miller (6.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg & team-leading 23 total steals).
TULANE
The Green Wave (4-4) is coming off a 90-63 home win over the University of New Orleans Wednesday (Dec. 6) that snapped a three-game losing streak.
Tulane, a veteran team, is led by red-shirt junior guard Kyren Whittington (16.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg & team-leading 25 total steals), graduate guards Morta Galic (13.8 ppg & 5.4 rpg) and Kaylah Rainey (3.5 ppg & team-leading 34 total assists) and graduate forward Hannah Pratt (13.5 ppg & 5.8 rpg).
