Bison Host Hofstra in a Nonconference Battle

Women's Basketball returns home to face Pride

WASHINGTON (December 20, 2023) - The Howard University women's basketball team looks to win back-to-back games for the first time this season when it hosts Hofstra University Thursday (Dec. 21) at noon inside Burr Gymnasium.

Playing without starters, fifth-year guard Iyanna Warren (Accokeek, Md.) and redshirt freshman guard Tyana Walker (Leawood, Kan.), the Bison rallied off the efforts of senior forward Kaiya Creek (Seat Pleasant, Md.), who scored a season-high 12 points to lead her team to a 46-45 road win over Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Saturday (Dec. 16). The Bison (2-10) had lost nine in a row.

Howard holds a 2-0 record in the series. The Bison edged the Pride, 64-62, at The Burr in 2021.  In the other contest, Howard prevailed, 73-64, in Hempstead, N.Y. (Nov. 24, 2019).
 
HOWARD
 
The status of Warren and Walker remains unknown going into the Hofstra game. The duo averages 25 points between them.
 
In the event they are not available, Howard will again look to Creek and sophomore forward Nile Miller (Haddonfield, N.J.), who scored nine points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked three shots in the win over FAU.
 
Junior guard Nyla Cooper (Fayetteville, N.C.), junior forward Vanessa Blake (Summerville, S.C.), senior guard Kaniyah Harris (Capital Heights, Md.) and Sa'lah Hemingway (San Bernardino, Calif.) will also be counted on to contribute. The Bison bench scored a season-high 25 points against the Owls.
 
HOFSTRA
 
Hofstra (5-4) is coming off a 113-24 home win over Farmingdale State Saturday (Dec. 16) to snap a two-game losing streak.
 
The Pride is led by sophomore guard Emma Von Essen (14.6 ppg & 4.1 rpg), graduate guard Sorelle Ineza (9.9 ppg), senior forward Brooke Anya (8.8 ppg, 7.7 rpg & team-leading 12 total blocks) and senior guard Ally Knight (4.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg, team leading 43 assists & 15 total steals).
