NEW ORLEANS (December 10, 2023) – Fifth-year guard
Iyanna Warren (Accokeek, Md.) scored a team-high 16 points but a balanced scoring attack and a pivotal two-minute stretch proved to be too much to overcome as the Howard University women's basketball team fell, 67-52, to Tulane in a nonconference game at the Avron Fogelman Arena.
The Bison (1-9) got off to a good start and led by nine early in the second quarter. The Green Wave (4-5) finally found some success against the Bison by forcing some key turnovers that led to an 8-0 run and took the lead by one.
Howard then missed eight of its last nine shots and with reserve Chiara Grattini scoring back-to-back threes, the Green Wave took a 37-28 halftime lead that they never relinquished.
Warren was the only Howard player to reach double figures. The graduate guard had perhaps her best all-around outing of the season, adding five rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks. She connected on 7-of-17 from the floor while the rest of the team made only 8-of-31.
Redshirt freshman guard
Tyana Walker (Leawood, Kan.) tallied nine points and junior forward
Vanessa Blake (Summerville, S.C.) contributed seven points in a losing cause.
A bright spot for the Bison was at the free throw line where they had a season best 12-of-13 for 91-percent.
Tulane was led by Kyren Washington, who led all scorers with 22 points and Grattini added 15 points off the bench, hitting 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.
NEXT UP: Howard continues its road trip in search of its second victory when it travels to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats Wednesday (Dec. 13) at 6 p.m.
