Bison Grab Seventh at the Hamptons Intercollegiate

Men's Golf starts and finishes strong

EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. (October 3, 2023) – Howard University men's golf team started and finished strong at the Hamptons Intercollegiate, hosted by Loyola (Md.). The two-day (Oct. 2-3), 54-hole event took place at the Maidstone Club (par-72, 6,665 yards) in East Hampton, N.Y.
 
After round one, HU sat tied for fourth place after shooting 1-under par (287). Next round, the Bison dropped to 10th (303, +15), but closed out the tournament on a high note with a seventh-place finish (291, +3).
 
Graduate C.M. Mixon (Bowling Green, Ken.) led the Bison, shooting 1-over par (217) during the three-round event. The Kentucky native recorded a 69 (-3) after day one and wrapped up the tourney with a 2-under par (70) effort in the final round. He tied for 16th in the standings.
 
Fellow classmate Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) shot 2-over par (218) in three rounds of action. After posting a 75 (+3) on day one, the Virginia product finished with rounds of 1-under par (71) and even par (72), respectively. He placed top 25 in the player leaderboard.
 
Graduate Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) ended the tournament with a 222 (+6), including an even-par (72) performance during the opening round. The Memphis native recorded an eagle in round one on hole seven.
 
All three Bison registered 10 birdies each during the 54-hole event.
 
No. 12 Alabama won the 2023 Hamptons Intercollegiate, shooting a new tournament-record 24-under par (840). No. 23 Ohio State finished three strokes behind (843, -21), followed by No. 47 UCLA (844, -20).
 
Individually, UCLA's Luke Powell won the medalist honor with a new tournament benchmark (199, -7). Alabama's Nick Dunlap finished runner-up (200, -16), followed by Princeton's William Huang (205, -11).
 
On Oct. 9-10, selected individuals will travel to Dallas for the Jackson T. Stephens Cup. The two-day event takes place at the Trinity Forest Golf Club.
