MONTERREY, Mexico (October 28, 2023) – Howard University men's golf team took part in the highly competitive Monterrey Collegiate Classic where they finished seventh overall in the team standings. The tournament was held at Club Campestre Monterrey (par 72, 7,141 yards).
Collectively, HU shot 20-under par (844) throughout the 54-hole event. In round two, the Bison produced a 277 (-11).
Graduate
C.M. Mixon (Bowling Green, Ky.) had another outstanding performance, shooting 13-under (203) with 15 birdies and a pair of eagles. In the middle round, the Kentucky product shot a 65 (-7). Overall, he tied for third place.
Fellow graduate
Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) tied for 13
th place after recording a 209 (-7) in three rounds of action. The Memphis native shot 3-under par (69) in rounds one and three while totaling 13 birdies.
Graduate
Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) had a 5-under par (211) performance, taking 19
th overall. Throughout the tourney, he earned nine birdies with a two eagles on holes nine and 12 in round two.
Utah State won the 2023 Monterrey Collegiate Classic, shooting 29-under par (835) and one stroke better than North Dakota State (836, -28).
Individually, Tarleston State's Max Bengtsson won the medal with a 15-under par (201) effort, edging out Utah State's Julio Arronte by one stroke (202, -14).
HU will regroup for the remaining fall season and prepare for the upcoming 2024 spring campaign.
