WASHINGTON (January 23, 2023) – The Howard University women's basketball team earned a win over Coppin State University (CSU), 62-58, at Burr Gymnasium.
With the win, HU snapped its brief two-game slide while picking up its 13
th consecutive victory over the Eagles, dating back to 2016.
Three different Bison ended with double digit points:
Destiny Howell (Queens, N.Y.) with 20 points;
Aziah Hudson (Massapequa, N.Y.) with 14 points and
Brooklynn Fort-Davis (Chicago) with 10 points.
Howard had momentum after the first quarter, going on a 9-0 scoring run and holding a 15-4 advantage after one.
The Bison continued to put the pressure on, holding the Eagles to 14-percent (5-of-35). Although Coppin State made its run, the Bison held a 24-16 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, CSU took advantage of HU's poor shooting, but Howard closed the third quarter strong and opened the fourth stanza with several momentous plays, led by Howell.
"Everybody contributed to tonight's win," said Howell postgame. "We definitely focused on rebounding, which helped translate to offense."
Howard scored 16 fast break points against the Eagles.
CSU's Jewel Watkins finished with a double-double (20 points & 11 rebounds) in the loss.
The Lady Bison continue their home stand when they host North Carolina Central Saturday (Jan. 28) at 2 p.m. inside Burr Gymnasium.
