COLUMBIA, S.C. (January 21, 2023) – Howard University women's distance medley relay (DMR) squad, consisting of seniors
Breanna McDonald (Bethesda, Md.) and
Melanie White (Orlando, Fla.), sophomore
Camille Egbula (Simpsonville, S.C.) and newcomer
Jordyn Miller (Mundelein, Ill.), came away victorious on the final day at the Carolina Challenge, hosted by the University of South Carolina.
The four Bison produced a 12:13.01 time, more than 12 seconds faster than the Gamecocks' A-Team.
All-American senior
Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C.) and freshmen
Kiya Lawson,
Zoe Turner and
Aniya Woodruff represented HU in the women's 4x400 relay, earning silver with a time of 3:35.67.
Wright also competed in the 400-meter dash, finishing second overall (54.01).
In the field, reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week graduate thrower
Mikyla Rodgers (South Huntington, N.Y.) wrapped up the weekend with a second-place finish in the weight throw (18.35 meters; 60'3").
On the men's side, senior runner
Ayoade Adebiyi (Virginia Beach, Va.) took part in the 5K run where he placed sixth overall (15:10.43).
Second-year Bison
Chase Drewery (Waldorf, Md.) leaped over 48 feet (14.68 meters) in the triple jump, landing him sixth in the standings.
On Feb 3-4, HU's road trip continues after a week off in Lexington, Va., for the VMI Relays and Blacksburg, Va., for the Doc Hale Virginia Tech Elite.
