LEXINGTON, Ky. & NEW YORK (January 14, 2023) – Howard University men's track & field team closed out the weekend with a pair of solid performances at the Rod McCravy Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky, and the annual HBCU Battle in New York City.
ROD MCCRAVY INVITE
On the track, four Bison reached the 60-meter hurdles final, led by junior
Zachary Hawkins (Loganville, Ga.) posting a second-place finish (7.95). Seniors
Jermanie Byrd (Miami),
Darian Clyburn (Louisville) and
Kameron Davis (Miami) took third (8.04), fourth (8.19) and eighth (8.48), respectively.
Houston native senior
Goba Dan-Princewill made the 60-meter dash final after producing a non AQ time of 6.92. In the final round, he clocked in at 6.96 and placed fifth overall.
In the field, second-year Bison
Chase Drewery (Waldorf, Md.) claimed third place in the triple jump, leaping 49 feet (14.95 meters).
HBCU BATTLE
In the Big Apple, sophomore runner
Julian Lawson (Sewell, N.J.) led the way with a pair of top 10 finishes. The New Jersey product earned fourth in the 3000-meter run (9:11.61), followed by an eighth place finish (4:37.54) in the mile run.
Fellow classmate
Kaleb Berry (Duncanville, Texas) took home silver in the 800-meter run (1:57.86) while newcomer
Kobe Hutson claimed sixth overall (2:00.63).
Sophomore
Jamar Bailey produced a 50.79 mark in the 400-meter run and junior
Ezekiel Hawkins (Loganville, Ga.) earned eighth place in the 60-meter hurdles (8.45).
In the field events, freshman
Andre Prince picked up two top 10 finishes in the shot put (12.60 meters/10
th) and weight throw (12.49 meters/8
th).
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
On Jan. 20-21, HU's road trip continues in Columbia, S.C., for the Carolina Challenge, hosted by the University of South Carolina.
