LEXINGTON, Ky. (January 13, 2023) – Howard University men's and women's track & field squads excelled on Day One of the Rod McCravy Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky.
On the track, several Bison moved on to the next round, especially in the 60-meter hurdles.
For the men, junior
Zachary Hawkins (Loganville, Ga.) and seniors
Jermanie Byrd (Miami) and
Kameron Davis (Miami) earned spots in the semi round, clocking in at AQ times of 8.09, 8.20 and 8.21, respectively. Senior
Darian Clyburn (Louisville) also made the next round with a non AQ mark of 8.24.
On the women's side, six Bison reached the semi-finals:
Darci Khan (8.49 [AQ]);
Kaya-Rae Dunbar (Burtonsville, Md./8.61);
Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C./8.63);
Cathrina Morris (8.80);
Jazmyn Wajd (8.81) and
Jasmyn Hunter (Flossmoor, Ill./8.90).
Khan, along with sophomores
Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) and
Lamaria Washington (Miami), qualified for the 60-meter dash semifinal round, producing times of 7.68, 7.64 & 7.65, respectively.
In the men's 60-meter dash, seniors
Ja'Leak Perry (Atlanta) and
Goba Dan-Princewill (Houston) moved on with marks of 6.90 and 6.91, respectively.
On the field, graduate thrower
Mikayla Rodgers (South Huntington, N.Y.) placed second in the weight throw (19.00 meters) and second-year Bison
Eric Brown, Jr. earned seventh in the men's long jump (6.96 meters).
Howard resumes competition Saturday (Jan. 14) with a pair of meets. HU wraps up the Rod McCravy Invite, starting at 11 a.m., and kicks off the annual HBCU Battle in New York City at 9 a.m.
