NORFOLK, Va. (August 29, 2022) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) revealed its women's volleyball weekly honors where Howard University freshman standout
Rya McKinnon (Bessemer, Ala.) took home the league's top rookie award. The announcement came Monday afternoon.
In her collegiate debut, McKinnon posted a .356 hitting percentage in victories over George Mason (Aug. 26) and Georgetown (Aug. 27). Friday, the Alabama native produced 14 kills and eight digs against the Patriots, followed by a 13-kill performance at crosstown rival Georgetown.
As of today, McKinnon leads the conference in kills per set (3.86).
Seniors
Kayla Diaz (Nanuet, N.Y.) and
Tamar Wells (Apopka, Fla.) received honorable mention.
Coppin State's Miajavon Coleman and Andrea Tsvetanova earned MEAC Player of the Week and Setter of the Week, respectively, while Delaware State's Sydney Lewis claimed the league's Defensive Player of the Week.
On Sept. 2-3, Howard travels to New Orleans for the Green Wave Classic, hosted by Tulane University.
