NORFOLK, Va. (May 12, 2022) – Howard University women's track and field squad holds the fourth spot at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Championships after tallying 14 points in three events during day one.
Rookie
Joslyn Crosby (Bossier City, La.) led the charge, scoring eight points in the 10K-meter run with a runner-up finish (40:19.74).
Throwers
Diana Effiom (Dallas) and
Symone Marsh (Hillsborough, N.J.) also registered points in the discus throw, combining for six points while taking fourth (37.69 meters) and eighth (34.93 meters), respectively.
Four Bison advanced to Championship Saturday in the 200-meter dash with senior
Jessika Gbai (Philadelphia) and freshmen
Sherri-Anne Norton (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and
Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) recording automatic qualifying times of 23.71, 24.56 and 24.64, respectively. Senior
Kennedy Lewis (Atlanta) rounded out Howard with a non AQ mark (25.73).
Saturday's (May 14) race is set for 3:15 p.m.
In the 400-meter hurdles, senior
Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C.) had the top AQ time of 1:00.56. Third-year Bison
Monika Williams (Denver) joined Wright in the final round, clocking in at 1:03.15.
Saturday's final is scheduled for 2:55 p.m.
Morgan State leads the pack with 26 points, followed by Norfolk State (22) and South Carolina State (15).
The decathlon and heptathlon finish Friday (May 13) at 9 a.m. to kick off the day's action. Running events will start at 2:50 p.m., with the preliminaries of the women's 100-meter hurdles. The men's 3K-meter steeplechase ends the day at 6 p.m.
