WASHINGTON (April 24, 2022) – Howard University softball team defeated Maryland Eastern Shore in Sunday's rubber match, 6-1, at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy in southeast D.C.
With the victory, HU improved to 23-20 (14-4 MEAC) while the Hawks dropped to 14-29 (11-7 MEAC) on the season.
Graduate
Analise De La Roca (San Pedro, Calif.) set the tone, going 6.2 innings while allowing only three hits in her 12
th win of the year.
Offensively, the Bison produced six runs on eight hits, led by senior
Ayana Sallee (Chesapeake, Va.) and rookie
Victoria Brown (Carson, Calif.) going 2-of-3 each in the victory.
After a scoreless first inning, HU struck first with four runs in the second, highlighted by senior
Camille Navarro (Los Angeles) stealing home, 4-0.
Next inning, Howard added a pair of runs and extended the lead to six after three innings, 6-0.
Eastern Shore got on the board with an RBI-ground out in the sixth to avoid the shutout.
Tuesday (April 26), HU closes out its nonconference slate with a doubleheader at Saint Peter's. First-pitch starts at 3 p.m.
