WASHINGTON (April 24, 2022) – Howard University softball team defeated Maryland Eastern Shore in Sunday's rubber match, 6-1, at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy in southeast D.C.
 
With the victory, HU improved to 23-20 (14-4 MEAC) while the Hawks dropped to 14-29 (11-7 MEAC) on the season.
 
Graduate Analise De La Roca (San Pedro, Calif.) set the tone, going 6.2 innings while allowing only three hits in her 12^th win of the year.
 
Offensively, the Bison produced six runs on eight hits, led by senior Ayana Sallee (Chesapeake, Va.) and rookie Victoria Brown (Carson, Calif.) going 2-of-3 each in the victory.
 
After a scoreless first inning, HU struck first with four runs in the second, highlighted by senior Camille Navarro (Los Angeles) stealing home, 4-0.
 
Next inning, Howard added a pair of runs and extended the lead to six after three innings, 6-0.
 
Eastern Shore got on the board with an RBI-ground out in the sixth to avoid the shutout.
 
Tuesday (April 26), HU closes out its nonconference slate with a doubleheader at Saint Peter's. First-pitch starts at 3 p.m.
