WASHINGTON (April 16, 2022) – Howard University softball team rallied to take down South Carolina State (SCSU), 10-5, and completed the three-game season sweep over the Lady Bulldogs at Washington Nationals Youth Academy.
 
With the victory, Howard earned its 20
th win of the season, its highest win total since 2011, while extending its program-record win streak to eight games.
 
Senior 
Kalita Dennis (Elk Grove, Calif.) led the charge, going 3-of-4 with four RBIs and a pair of runs scored in the win.
 
SCSU (3-31, 2-13 MEAC) took the early lead after scoring on a wild pitch, but the Bison responded with two runs in the bottom first, capped off by Dennis' solo shot down the left field line, 2-1.
 
Top three, South Carolina State reclaimed the upper hand with a three-run blast from Kyla Reeves, 4-2, but an RBI-single by rookie 
Victoria Brown (Carson, Calif.) cut the margin to one after three innings of play, 4-3.
 
Next inning, SCSU scored on an unearned run and extended the lead to two after four, 5-3, but the Bison refused to go away.
 
Bottom five, HU tied the contest at five apiece and reclaimed the lead with a five-run inning in the sixth, 10-5, highlighted by Dennis' three-run double.
 
Graduate 
Analise De La Roca (San Pedro, Calif.) tossed the final two innings and closed the door on South Carolina State, earning her sixth win of the season while striking out three Lady Bulldogs.
 
SCSU registered five runs on five hits, including Reeves' three-run homer in the loss.
 
Tuesday (April 19), HU meets Coppin State in the season series finale at Nats Youth Academy. First-pitch is set for 6 p.m.
