GENEVA, Ohio (February 26, 2022) – Howard University women's swimming and diving team ended the weekend breaking three more school records at the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships in Geneva, Ohio.
In the five-day span, the Bison women broken nine school benchmarks.
Senior
Madison Freeland (Glenside, Pa.), junior
Isabella Fountain (White Plains, N.Y.) and newcomers
Jorden Hill (Birmingham, Ala.) and
Kelsey Roberson (West Orange, N.J.) competed in the 400 Free Relay, clocking in at a new school benchmark (3:32.24).
In that same event, Freeland swam first leg and recorded the ninth-fastest mark in the school's 100 Free history (53.16).
Fountain and Roberson took part in the 100 Free, finishing with the second (52.15) and 10
th (53.34) fastest times in program history, respectively.
Freshman
Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) reset the school record in the 200 Breast with a 2:22.52 time. The previous record holder KaSandra Kaplan set the mark in 2018 (2:23.65).
Second-year Bison
Michaela Spears (Chicago) also competed in the 200 Breast, recording the second-best time in program history (2:23.12).
Fellow classmate
Alana Josey (York, Pa.) broke the 1650 Free mark, registering at 18:14.92. The previous record stood for 19 years by assistant coach
Miriam Lynch, Ph.D (18:30.45).
On the board, junior
Teyana Johnson (San Antonio) scored 200.50 points in the 3-meter dive.
Howard finished seventh in the NEC Championships, collecting 248 points over five days.
On March 10-12, several Bison will travel to Elkhart, Ind., for the National Invitational Championships.
