BALTIMORE, Md. – Howard women's swimming and diving team turned in another strong showing at the UMBC Tri-Meet on Saturday, recording six event victories and several personal bests against the host Retrievers and VMI.
The Bison opened the afternoon with a dominant performance in the 200-yard medley relay, where the quartet of
Chanice Posada (Houston, Texas),
Rhanishka Gibbs (Nassau, Bahamas),
Summer McKoy (Pikesville, Md.), and Zuzu Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) took first place in 1:46.72, setting the tone early for the meet.
Nwaeze continued her stellar form with a pair of individual victories, capturing the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.88) and 100-yard freestyle (52.94). Freshman
Alyssa Napier (Wilmington, Del.) followed closely in the 200 free, finishing second with a season-best 1:56.28.
Posada added another win for Howard in the 100-yard backstroke (57.20), leading a 1-2 Bison finish as McKoy took second and posted a new personal best (59.53). Gibbs also earned top honors in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.33) — a new season best, surpassing her previous mark of 1:05.86.
Howard closed the meet on a high note, claiming the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:34.52, thanks to the efforts of Napier, McKoy,
Gabrielle Vickles (El Dorado, Trinidad & Tobago), and Nwaeze.
Additional standout performances included Vickles' second-place finish in the 50 free (24.46) and Posada's runner-up showing in the 200 backstroke (2:07.45). Napier also notched another personal best in the 100 butterfly (57.65) to place second.
The Bison return to the pool on Friday, November 14th at 2 PM when they travel to Emmitsburg, MD to face Mount St. Mary's.
