BUIES CREEK, N.C. (February 25, 2022) – Howard University softball team dropped a pair on opening day at the Camel Stampede, host by Campbell University. HU fell to Marshall in the first game, 15-2 (f/5), and then came up short against the Camels, 2-0.
GAME TWO (Howard 0, Camels 2)
In the nightcap, graduate
Analise De La Roca (San Pedro, Calif.) kept HU in the game, tossing six innings while allowing only two runs (one earned), but the Bison were able to get into a rhythm.
Senior
Xzarria Simmons (Escondido, Calif.) produced the lone hit for Howard.
After three scoreless innings, Campbell scored twice and kept HU off the board.
Campbell's Georgeanna Barefoot threw a one-hitter in seven innings of work.
GAME ONE (Howard 2, Camels 15 [f/5])
HU produced six hits, but only managed two runs. Senior
Kalita Dennis (Elk Grove, Calif.) went 2-of-3 with an RBI and run scored.
Marshall pounced on the Bison early, scoring 10 runs in the opening frame, and added four more in the second and third innings combined.
Top four, Dennis got Howard on the board with a solo shot to center.
Next inning, freshman
Jade Greene (Upper Marlboro, Md.) recorded an inside-the-park home run.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Howard (3-7) continues its road trip at the Camel Stampede with two more contests Saturday (Feb. 26). HU takes on Marshall in the rematch, starting at 10 a.m., followed by a 5:30 p.m. game time against Kent State.
