BUIES CREEK, N.C. (February 26, 2022) – Howard University softball team fell twice on Day Two of the Camel Stampede. HU dropped the opener against Marshall, 9-2, and then the nightcap versus Kent State (KSU), 8-0 (f/5).
GAME ONE (Howard 2, Marshall 9)
Howard mustered five scattered hits against Marshall.
After taking a 1-0 lead, the Herd runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to extend the margin, 4-0.
Bottom six, senior
Xzarria Simmons (Escondido, Calif.) delivered an RBI-single up the middle and cut the deficit, 4-1. Moments later, fellow classmate
Kalita Dennis (Elk Grove, Calif.) scored on a passed ball and sliced the margin to two after six innings of play, 4-2.
Top seven, Marshall exploded for five runs to put the contest out of reach, 9-2.
GAME TWO (Howard 0, Kent State 8 [f/5])
Kent State's Kylie Ringler tossed a perfect game against the Bison, going five innings while striking out seven batters in the win.
After two scoreless innings, KSU tallied five runs in the third and took a commanding 5-0 advantage.
Next inning, Kent State scored three more times to extend the lead to eight, 8-0.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Howard closes out the weekend against Campbell. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
