GENEVA, Ohio (February 23, 2022) – Howard University women's swimming & diving team saw a pair of school records fall on Day Two of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships.
Overall, the Bison women have broken three school marks total since Tuesday (Feb. 22).
Second-year Bison
Isabella Fountain (White Plains, N.Y.) was part of both record-setting performances on the night.
Fountain, junior
Courtney Connolly (White Lakes, Mich.), sophomore
Michaela Spears (Chicago) and newcomer
Jorden Hill (Birmingham, Ala.) competed in the 200 Medley Relay where they shattered the school record with a 1:45.68 time. The previous mark was set in 2020 (1:46.50).
Individually, Fountain broke her own record in the 50 Free, clocking in at 23.86. The previous time was set back in December 2021 (23.90).
Newcomer
Kelsey Roberson (West Orange, N.J.) also competed in the 50 Free, producing a time of 24.17, which ranks tied for ninth all-time in program history.
Spears, Connolly and freshman
Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) took part in the 200 IM, earning fifth (2:07.27), seventh (2:07.96) and 10
th (2:06.37), respectively. For their efforts, each Bison etched themselves into the program's record book with the third, fourth and second best times in school history, respectively.
Other notable performance included senior
Madison Freeland (Glenside, Pa.) recording a 5:16.46 time in the 500 Free, ranking third all-time program history.
Currently, HU (95 points) sits fifth in the NEC standings after moving up three spots from Day One. Central Connecticut State leads after two days with 213 points.
The NEC Championships continue Thursday (Feb. 24) in Geneva, Ohio.
