NORFOLK, Va. (February 21, 2022) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference uncovered its softball weekly honors where Howard University freshman standout
Alyssa Vasquez (Downey, Calif.) was named the league's top rookie. The announcement came Tuesday evening.
For the second consecutive week, the California native took home a weekly accolade. Last week, Vasquez won MEAC Player of the Week.
Over the weekend, she hit .667 in three games. Vasquez went 3-of-4 with two RBIs and a pair of doubles, including the game-winning RBI double, in the 6-5 victory over Quinnipiac Saturday (Feb. 19). The next day (Feb. 20), she batted 2-of-3 with a double against Iowa State and then had a double and walk in Sunday's win over Quinnipiac.
This season, Vasquez has accumulated a .444 hitting percentage with 12 hits (team-best), eight RBIs and five doubles (team-leading) in eight starts.

Camille Navarro (Los Angeles) received honorable mention.
Norfolk State junior Imani Moore was selected MEAC Softball Player of the Week while teammate senior Joana Vallejo claimed Pitcher of the Week.
On Feb. 25-27, Howard returns to the Tar Heel State for the Campbell Stampede, hosted by the Campbell Camels.
