WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Howard University Bison defense was too much for the Delaware State Hornets forcing 28 turnovers to cruise past Delaware State 83-44, Saturday afternoon in Burr Gymnasium.
Four Bison scored in double-digits, led by
Krislyn Marsh recording a season-high 17 points and her second double-double grabbing 11 rebounds.
Nyla Cooper opened the first quarter scoring ten first-quarter points,
Vanessa Udoji recorded 13 points,
Anzhane' Hutton chipped in 10 points.
Cooper opened the game from long range to spark a 10-2 run cemented by a Cooper mid-range jumper, with 7:14 left in the first quarter. The Hornets answered back with a 7-2 run to close the gap, 10-9 with 4:12 remaining. Howard ended the quarter on an 11-3 run to take a 21-12 lead.
Head Coach Ty Grace took the gas off, putting in Bison reserves. In the second quarter, the reserves outscored the Hornets 23-10 to take a 44-22 lead into intermission.
The Bison opened the second half on a 19-7 run before pulling their starters at the 4:17 mark. However, the Bison held the Hornets scoreless the rest of the way, going on a 9-0 to close the third quarter leading 72-29.
The Bison and the Hornets played a back and forth fourth quarter, with Howard outscoring the Hornets 15-11 to cruise to a dominating 83-44 victory, Howard's third
straight.
The Bison bench outscored the Hornets 48-0, recorded 19 fastbreak points, 13 steals, and forced a season-high 28 points.
