WASHINGTON (December 8, 2022) - The Howard University men's track and field team will head north to Staten Island, N.Y., to compete in the Seahawk Shootout, hosted by Wagner College. The Bison begin competition at 9 a.m. Friday (Dec. 9).

MEET PREVIEW
 
Last weekend (Dec. 3), the Bison posted impressive performances at the HBCU & Ivy Challenge (Cambridge, Mass.) and Navy Invitational (Annapolis, Md.).
 
Howard Director of Track and Field David Oliver is optimistic this trend will continue.
 
"Last week, the guys really got it done," stated Oliver. "This meet will serve as a great measuring stick heading into winter break."
 
The hurdle squad, headed by seniors Kameron Davis (Miami) and Darian Clyburn (Louisville) and junior Zachary Hawkins (Loganville, Ga.), look to continue to set the tone for the Bison. Last week, the trio took second, third and fourth, respectively, at Harvard and they will again be amongst the top hurdlers in the field in New York.
 
Seniors Richard Ninamou (Louisville), Ja'Leak Perry (Atlanta) and Goba Dan-Princewill (Houston) hope to make a splash in the 60-meter dash after a sensational season opener. All three Bison advanced to the finals at the HBCU & Ivy Challenge, all running lifetime bests. Friday presents another opportunity for the Bison to exert their dominance in the event and the seniors are focused on getting the job done.
 
In the field events, sophomore Chase Drewery (Waldorf, Md.) expects to continue his dominance in the triple jump after securing the victory last weekend. Fellow sophomore Kyle Fisher will provide depth in the jumps after runner-up finishes in the long and triple jump at Harvard.
 
After narrowly missing the school record in the weight throw at the Navy Invitational, senior Nnamdi Olebara (Bowie, Md.) looks to take down the top mark. He will also compete in the shot put Friday.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
Some top performers from the last meet got off to a great start for the HU track team.
 
Drewery, reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Field Athlete of the Week, set the tone in Cambridge, winning the event by leaping nearly 49 feet. Fisher earned runner-up behind Drewery, jumping 14.60 meters (47'6").
 
On the track, the hurdle team showed out in the 60-meter hurdles with three Bison finishing in the top 4: Hawkins (2^nd place/8.02); Davis (3^rd place/8.04) and Clyburn (4^th place/8.34).
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
HU returns to play January 8 for the Ram Indoor Invitational in Virginia Beach, Va., with VCU as the host.
